Kow Bingham

Shop Owner/Piercer

I grew up in Iowa City and Coralville for the majority of my childhood and into my teenage years. I was born at Mercy hospital, along with my wife and both of our children. I have a big sense of pride for our town and community - I actively seek to incorporate the knowledge and experience that I gained from traveling the country into my daily practice.

In late 2002 I started a piercing apprenticeship at Atomic body piercing which would later become Focus body piercing. From 2008 to 2011, I lived and worked in the Mecca of piercing, San Fransisco.

In 2011 I decided to take a job offer in Orlando Florida at Hart & Huntington in Universal Studios with fellow practitioners from Iowa (shoutout to Cool-aid and Ike!). After x years, I moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico to work with world-renowned Steve Truitt to further master my craft and become the best piercer I can be.

I moved back to Iowa City late 2016 where I worked at Release body modification before deciding to open my own studio in 2019.

Throughout these years I have attended and worked within multiple tattoo conventions throughout the United States dealing with ever-changing requests from health departments and licensing/compliance requirements.

I’ve attended a number of APP (Association of Professional Piercers) conferences with proof of classes attended. I’ve been blood bourne pathogen, CPR, and First Aid certified throughout the country multiple times, and licensed in a handful of the strictest states to do so in the country.

Tattoo Artist

my Books are open! text/call (319) 569-9199 to schedule.

I grew up in Le Claire, Iowa. I received a Bachelor’s degree in art from the University of Iowa in 2023 and have been focused on tattooing since.

My favorite tattoo style is neo-realism (realism with some hard lines). I also really enjoy doing neo-traditional and large scale floral pieces. I can do color, but right now I prefer black and grey.

Outside of tattooing, I enjoy playing guitar and finding new music.

I usually get pretty quiet once I start tattooing so that I can focus on the art. It doesn’t bother me if people in the room are talking. Talking is a good distraction for most - I encourage you to bring a friend if you want someone to actually carry a conversation with you.

I am a planner. I prefer to have the stencil ready for the client when they show up. My process is slow, so I often have bigger projects almost finalized before the tattoo starts. I will absolutely make changes to the design for you if there is something that you do not like! Your art will turn out better with a little notice, especially with larger projects.

I usually take Wednesdays and Thursdays off. I usually schedule larger tattoos during the early afternoon and leave the evenings open for walk-ins. I accept walk-ins when I am available from Friday-Tuesday 11am-7pm.

I offer free touch-ups on all of my work. Please reach out to me if there is anything bothering you about your tattoo. I want you to be happy with your tattoo for as long as possible.
